Testimonials
“On behalf of Tri-State Area School Study Council I want to thank you for presenting at our 8th Annual Jean Winsand International Institute on April 15, 2010. Your presentation brought vitality, humor, and practical wisdom to a room full of women whose work impacts the lives of the children of Pennsylvania. The audience really enjoyed it. Just as Jean Winsand blazed a trail for many of us, so, too, have you served as a role model for other inspiring female leaders.”-Dr. Diane Kirk, Clinical Visiting Assistant Professor, University of Pittsburgh
“We greatly appreciate the time you spent preparing and assisting us with the development of the plenary session on Sibling Relationships with Stedman Graham. We have heard many positive comments about your enthusiasm for the issue, the quality of the information you provided, and your flawless facilitation of the session itself. By all accounts, it was one of the best sessions of the convention!”
-Lynne A. Cleveland, President, The ARC of the United States
“Your keynote address, “It’s Never Too Late to Get Happy!” set the stage for the entire conference! I truly appreciate how you tailored your presentation to the needs of the group – you took a topic that is often considered “soft” but had each of asking ourselves some “hard” questions. The sponsored gift or your autographed copies of “Peace, Love and Lemonade” allowed the audience to take your message home with them!”
-Mary O’Connor, Ph.D., RN, Chair, SWPONL Education Commission

June 25, 2009 – New York, NY — Organizers of the 13th annual Independent Publisher Book Awards, conducted to honor the year’s best independently published books, have announced the results for the 2009 competition. While much of the world economy is in a slump, books and reading are gaining ground on more expensive forms of entertainment, and the annual list of “IPPY” award winners represents the kind of alternative viewpoints today’s readers crave.
This year’s awards attracted 4,090 entries from throughout the U.S. and Canada, plus most English-speaking countries worldwide. Medal-winning books came from 44 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia, eight Canadian provinces, and six countries overseas. The Independent Publisher Book Awards were conceived in 1996 as a broad-based, unaffiliated awards program open to all members of the independent publishing industry. The awards are intended to bring increased recognition to the thousands of exemplary independent, university, and self-published titles produced each year, and reward those who exhibit the courage, innovation, and creativity to bring about change in the world of publishing. Winners receive gold, silver and bronze medals and can place foil seals of the medal image on their book covers.
Peace, Love and Lemonade: A Recipe to Make Your Life Sweeter written by Nancy Stampahar, Pittsburgh, PA, won the bronze medal in the self-help category.
“Today’s readers are seeking diverse perspectives on hot-button issues,” said awards director Jim Barnes. “This year’s list represents a mix of established independents and bold new voices, and their messages echo the call for change and a straightforward approach to dealing with the world’s social, political and economic problems.”
The IPPY Awards are presented by IndependentPublisher.com, the online “voice of independent publishing” operated by publishing services firm Jenkins Group of Traverse City, Michigan.

SURVIVING TODAY’S HEADLINES
Are outside circumstances or inner turmoils turning you sour? This book offers an inspirational recipe for enduring adversity, embracing change, and living a sweeter life.
PITTSBURGH, PA (October 2008) – If we are to believe the headlines in today’s daily news, things look pretty grim: the cost of consumer goods continues to rise, unemployment is up, a recession is looming, Wall Street seems precarious, and the war on terror persists. Is all of this dire news bringing you down? Or, worse, is a personal hardship beginning to overwhelm you? It doesn’t have to. A book by Nancy Stampahar offers a hopeful twist on the adage”When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” In Peace, Love and Lemonade: A Recipe to Make Your Life Sweeter, she explores the power of choice through a practical approach that engenders happiness-regardless of outside circumstances-through three main ingredients: accountability, attitude, and action. Stampahar reveals personal stories of how life threw her lemonsfrom an early age. With candor, she speaks about gleaning courage from her beloved disabled brother, as well as her mother-who rose above an abusive marriage and, while single and on welfare, persevered to earn a law degree. Feeling vulnerable and distressed by circumstances as a teenager, Stampahar dropped out of high school and turned to drugs and alcohol.
As a young adult, she stumbled many times before learning to effectively face challenges, make informed choices, and eventually triumph over tragedy. Now, Stampahar is an adversity/change consultant who helps others lead more empowered lives by building the requisite life skills.
“No matter how tough our lives have been, we can reach our ‘greatness potential,’” Stampahar says. “It is deep inside us.” Peace, Love and Lemonade offers hands-on techniques and simple wisdom for overcoming obstacles and achieving our greatness potential. Self-reflection questions and worksheets round out each chapter, enabling readers to apply the methods to their own lives.
About the Author:
A sought-after organizational development consultant, trainer, and speaker, with a degree in human resource management, Stampahar owns and directs Silver Lining Solutions, a consulting firm that specializes in adversity/change management, assertiveness/conflict resolution, empowerment, leadership, and team building.
